Alumnus Hired as Site Manager for National Educational Organization

Alumnus Jayson Green '98 recently joined Jumpstart, a nationwide organization focused on early childhood education for children in low-income communities, as manager of the Jumpstart site at the University of the District of Columbia. Green, who earned his bachelor's degree in sociology and Black Studies from Lehman, worked in youth development and program implementation in the New York City area for more than ten years and is pursuing his master's in public administration at Baruch.

Based in Boston, Jumpstart is a national organization that engages preschool children in an intensive early education program, with the goal of ensuring that they enter kindergarten prepared to succeed at grade level. As site manager, Green will work with University staff and Jumpstart's national office.

Green also serves as a G.E.D. instructor at Our House, which provides opportunities for at-risk adolescents, and as an E.S.L. and G.E.D. instructor at Housing Initiative Partnership, Inc. and HIP Services, a nonprofit developer involved in neighborhood revitalization. In addition, he teaches a computer course for Washington Area Women in the Trade, which offers nontraditional employment training for homeless and low-income women.
