Original Student Play May 13 at S.E.T.

Junior Michael Martinez with Professor William Hoffman
An unrehearsed reading of Aboriri, an original play by third-year student Michael Martinez, will take place on Tuesday, May 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Experimental Theatre (S.E.T.), Room B20 of the Speech and Theatre Building. In this "cold reading," there will be no costumes or set. Admission is free.
Aboriri, which is Latin for the verb "to abort," is a tragedy set in the small town of Danville, Pa., where the protagonists, Maria and Christina, struggle over the issue of abortion. Maria, who has recently discovered that she is pregnant, is pro-life, but her friend Christina thinks abortion is the best option.
"The play is meant to be objective, fairly showing both sides of the abortion issue," said the playwright.
Martinez is a student in Professor William Hoffman's "Playwriting" class and aspires to writing and directing screenplays in the future.
