Student Health Center to Sponsor 'Walk To Wellness'
Studies show that those who walk just thirty minutes a day reduce their risks for heart-related diseases while increasing their body’s potential for a healthier lifespan.
"Walking is something that many people are capable of doing," explains Kate Greenberg, director of Health and Wellness Education. "As a form of exercise, walking can help people manage their weight, control high blood pressure, and boost 'good' cholesterol levels while reducing the risk of breast cancer, type 2 diabetes. It even protects against hip fracture and helps in coping with depression and anxiety."
Those taking part in the challenge will receive a free pedometer, available at the Student Health Center, to help them keep track of how many miles they walk each day. At the end of the challenge, steadfast participants may be eligible to win a Modell’s gift card.
To sign up, visit the information table in the Music Building cafeteria between 12-2 p.m. on September 9, 10, and 11. Or visit the Student Health Center, Monday-Friday from 11 a.m.- 5 p.m. Registration is available online at www.lehman.cuny.edu/studenthealth.
