Author David Kaufman to Visit "Conversations" Set Oct. 20

Author David Kaufman will be the next guest on J.C.T. Professor William Hoffman's "Conversations" cable television series. The program, which features discussions with noted figures in the world of theater and dance, will be taped live on Monday, October 20, at 2 p.m. in Room C-14 of Carman Hall. This event is free and open to the community.

Kaufman is the best-selling author of Doris Day: The Untold Story of the Girl Next Door (Virgin Books, June 10, 2008) and Ridiculous: The Life and Times of Charles Ludlam (Applause Books, October 2002). He has been covering the theater in New York since 1981. A former theater critic for the New York Daily News, he is also a long-time contributor to the Nation, Vanity Fair, the Village Voice and the New York Times."

Now in its sixth season, "Conversations" won the 2008 Telly Award for cultural programming for its interview with Kent Nagano, musical director of the Bavarian State Opera. Previous guests on the show include Peter Gelb, director of the Metropolitan Opera, legendary playwrights Edward Albee, Lanford Wilson, and Arthur Laurents, opera star Regina Resnik, and theater manager Albert Poland.

Guests of the show sit on a sparse stage set with two chairs, a coffee table, and a signature bouquet of red roses—and talk about their professional experiences in a casual, free-flowing discussion.
