The New York City Council will hold a special ceremony to honor Lehman's Center for Urban Male Leadership with a formal proclamation for its work with black and Latino males. Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Councilman Larry B. Seabrook will officiate. The community is invited to attend this event, which will take place on Thursday, November 13, at 1 p.m. in the Council chambers.
Attending will be Lehman Vice President for Student Affairs Jose Magdaleno, Associate Dean John Holloway, and Professor Michael Deas (African and African American Studies), who is the Center's director.
"It is my belief that knowledge is power," Professor Deas explains. "I remain committed to the stability and growth of all students."
The Center provides support to continuing students by strengthening academic skills, personal development, and character enrichment. It is committed to developing the whole student, both inside and outside the classroom, and seeks to increase the retention and graduation rates of all students.
