Lehman College Big Band to Give Free Concert November 23

Trombone
The Lehman College Big Band will give its first performance of the 2008-2009 season with a concert of music by jazz greats Duke Ellington, Kenny Dorham, Jimmy Heath, Charlie Parker, and other famous jazz composers and musicians. The campus community is invited to attend this performance on Sunday, November 23, at 2 p.m. in the Studio Theatre.

Directed by Distinguished Lecturer Bob Stewart, the band includes students and members of the community. Joining the band for a special performance will be Lehman vocal student Glendalys Sosa, singing "All of Me."

A professional tuba player with over thirty-five years experience, Professor Stewart has toured and recorded with artists such as Charles Mingus, Wynton Marsalis, David Murray, Taj Mahal, and Dizzy Gillespie. Professor Stewart was recently the focus of a documentary, Jazz on a Winter's Day, which captured him conducting a workshop with traditional brass-musicians in a remote Alpine valley in Salzburg, Austria.
