Assemblyman Ruben Díaz, Jr.
New York State Assemblyman Ruben Díaz, Jr. will deliver this semester's final talk in Lehman College's Center for Urban Male Leadership's "Speaker Series" on Wednesday, December 3, from 2-4 p.m. in the Lovinger Theatre. Entitled "The Power to Lead: Tomorrow's Success Begins Today," the talk will focus on empowering individuals to become productive leaders and citizens. This event is free and open to the community.

A Lehman graduate, Assemblyman Díaz represents the 85th Assembly District in the Bronx. Since first taking office in January 1997, he has advocated for the South Bronx's poor, middle class, and working families and pushed for economic development and job creation programs.

The Center's "Speaker Series" is designed to present students with informative and influential speakers whose careers can help inspire their own success. The New York City Council recently honored the Center with a formal proclamation for its work with black and Latino males.

"We are committed to providing ongoing programs that will continue to empower all students," said Professor and Center Director Michael Deas. "Our focus is on strengthening academic skills, personal development, and character enrichment." The Center seeks to develop the whole student, both inside and outside the classroom, and works to increase retention and graduation rates.
