New Play by Prof. Hoffman to Open Jan. 23

Cornbury: The Queen's Governor
Professor William Hoffman's play, Cornbury: The Queen's Governor, about the outrageous antics of one of New York's first governors, will premiere at the Hudson Guild Theatre in Manhattan on January 23 and run through February 8. Performances will begin at 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday; 2 p.m. on Saturday; and 5 p.m. on Sunday. No performances will be held on Tuesdays.

Cornbury relates the legendary tale of Edward Hyde, the British governor of colonial New York who is now remembered primarily for his rumored habit of dressing as his first cousin, Queen Anne. With wit, beautiful language, and lots of heart, this historical romp raises important questions about the early days of New York and the nature of American society.

Professor Hoffman co-wrote the play with Anthony Holland. The production features downtown theater legends David Greenspan and Everett Quinton together on stage for the first time.

General admission is $18; $15 for students and seniors. To order tickets, call 212-352-3101, or visit https://www.ovationtix.com/trs/pr/635685.

On April 29, at Lehman College, another production of Cornbury will open, this time directed by Professor Hoffman.
