C.L.L.S.E. Celebrates National School Counseling Week
Produced by Jerry Barnard of the Information Technology Resources Department, the video was written by Professor Stuart Chen-Hayes, program coordinator of Lehman's Counselor Education/School Counseling program, and his colleagues Dr. Ketrin Saud Maxwell of Fairleigh Dickinson University and Dr. Deryl Bailey of the University of Georgia. It features twelve teaching vignettes about the various equity issues facing school counselors and college readiness counselors in elementary, middle, and high schools.
"What makes this video special is that it's the first to teach school counselors and counselor educators specific skills that have been developed over the past decade through the work of the transformed school counseling movement and the college readiness for every K-12 student movements," explains Professor Chen-Hayes.
The video includes cameo appearances by Lehman faculty members Professor Tamisha Bouknight and Professor Laura Roberts and graduate students Terry Houlihan, Suzette Ramsundar, and Regina Ratti.
Professor Chen-Hayes will travel to Texas later in the week to make a presentation on closing opportunity gaps with increased college readiness counseling, showcasing ten years of transformative school counselor education at Lehman College, at the Annual Education Trust's Transforming School Counseling Academy.
In addition to the video's release, the Counselor Education/ School Counseling Program is celebrating its ten-year anniversary as a companion institution with the Education Trust's N.C.T.S.C.
