Mayor Stops By Homecoming Game

Michael Bloomberg with Lehman and Hunter Basketball Players
Mayor Michael Bloomberg stopped by the APEX to catch the Annual Alumni Day Doubleheader.

Lehman's men's swimming and diving team took home its fourth consecutive CUNY championship on February 7—just in time to be congratulated by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who stopped by the campus for part of the College's Annual Homecoming games. The event brought out family and friends, who cheered both the women's and men's basketball teams on to victory against the Hunter College Hawks. In between the double-header games, more than fifteen former Lehman College men's and women's basketball players took the court for an alumni game that brought back fond memories of past teams.

As the men's basketball game got underway, Mayor Bloomberg took a seat five rows deep into the bleachers to enjoy the contest, which ended with Lehman's 79-65 victory.

"Between the excitement of the Alumni game and the presence of the Mayor being in the stands, our guys were fired up," said Head Coach Steven Schulman. "The team built off that energy and that culminated into us putting together another 40-minute, hearty performance."

Mayor Bloomberg talked with fans, players, coaches, and administrators, and posed for pictures.

"Seeing the Mayor show up in support of our athletic programs was a pleasure and greatly appreciated," said Athletics Director Dr. Martin Zwiren. "The day was going well for our teams, and then to see him arrive and embrace the people in the APEX Center the way he did was terrific."
