April 3 Workshop Aims to Improve Education for Autistic Students
The workshop will focus on how to design effective educational environments for students with autism and other severe developmental disabilities using the Pyramid Approach to Education, which allows educators to create effective lessons in multiple settings using a broad array of teaching strategies. The model helps teachers organize and prioritize their responsibilities in teaching critical functional skills, as well as communication skills.
Leading the conference will be Anne Hoffman of Pyramid Educational Consultants, a specialist in the field. Ms. Hoffman has been working with autistic children and their parents since 1991. She has extensive expertise in the Pyramid Approach and the Picture Exchange Communication System (P.E.C.S.), which teaches children and adults with autism and other communication deficits to initiate communication. She is a senior P.E.C.S. consultant and an international presenter and has been involved in the P.E.C.S. Implementer certification process.
Admission is $110, and the group rate for parties of six or more is $100. For more information on this workshop, visit the department's events page.
