Film Screening April 6: 'Slingshot Hip Hop'
Lehman will host a free screening of the critically acclaimed film Slingshot Hip Hop on Monday
, April 6, at 6 p.m. in the Studio Theatre. The film weaves together the stories of young Palestinians living in the West Bank, Gaza, and inside Israel as they discover Hip Hop and employ it as a tool to surmount divisions imposed by occupation and poverty. From internal checkpoints and Separation Walls to gender norms and generational differences, this is the story of young people crossing the borders that separate them.
Following the screening there will be a discussion with Shadia Marji, Brian Pickett, and Ali Essa of the Palestine Education Project. Professor Christa Salamandra (Anthropology) will serve as moderator. This event is sponsored by Lehman Stages and the Department of Anthropology.
