Honors College Application
Each year, the City University of New York invites a select group of high-achieving students to join its Honors College University Scholars Program. The Honors Colleges are located at seven CUNY colleges-Baruch, Brooklyn, City, Hunter, Lehman, Queens, and College of Staten Island. Honors College students on each campus are designated University Scholars. These students have available to them the combined resources of the country's largest urban University and the world's most exciting city.
Financial Support
Special funding provides a package including full-tuition coverage and stipends. Each student receives an academic expense account to use for academically enriching experiences, such as study abroad, or to cover living expenses during an unpaid internship. Every student also receives a free laptop computer.
Cultural Passport
A Cultural Passport provides entry to the riches of the city, including concerts, theater, museums, and other cultural institutions. Activities associated with the Cultural Passport bring students in contact with people active in every aspect of city life: the arts, government, business, science. Opportunities are available for internships, mentoring experiences, and research.
The Academic Program
University Scholars participate in challenging honors programs at their home colleges. In the Honors College Seminar, students participate in a wide range of activities and projects with Honors College students from other CUNY campuses. Each Seminar focuses on a different aspect of New York City and integrates experiences associated with the Cultural Passport and traditional academic study.
Admission
The University seeks students whose record of academic excellence in high school will provide the foundation for a rigorous intellectual experience in college. Admission is based on the high school academic record, SAT/ACT scores, an essay, recommendations, and, in some cases, an interview.
Applicants must submit an Honors College application, indicating their first-choice college, to the University Application Processing Center (UAPC). Students who file early decision applications will be notified of their status by December 13, 2003. Others will be notified by March 14, 2004.
An Honors College application may be requested by calling 1-800-CUNY-YES (toll-free).
