SI Leaders

SI Leaders are successful students or recent graduates who have demonstrated a high level of skill in the course content of SI targeted courses and who possess excellent communication and leadership skills.

The SI Program trains SI Leaders to provide peer education through leading group review sessions of course content and skills, using facilitation and small group techniques to promote both independent and collaborative learning.

SI Leaders attend all sessions of the SI-targeted course to which they have been assigned. They work with the instructor to emphasize the content and skills students most need to master for the course.

SI Leaders make class announcements to publicize the SI Program, conduct surveys to ascertain the most convenient times for students to attend group review sessions outside of class, and prepare and facilitate group review sessions for three hours each week class is in session. SI Leaders also collect and input attendance data, develop marketing strategies for the program, and participate in ongoing training throughout the term.

Weekly supervision of SI Leaders is conducted by a team of Assistant Supervisors and the SI Coordinator. Trainings are held before the term begins and at the mid-point of the term. SI Leaders conduct self-assessment activities at mid-term and at the end of the term after exams have been completed.
