Technology in Education
In 2006, Lehman was awarded a Title V grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The grant is designed to improve student transition to the upper division of college study. The Title V Office of Supplemental Instruction & Technology was established at Lehman in 2007 to improve student transition to the upper division in science, mathematics, and business studies.
To meet this objective, the Title V Office of Supplemental Instruction & Technology will:
- supply supplemental instruction in targeted courses within these areas that have experienced historically low success rates;
- purchase laboratory equipment and technology for some of the gateway science and accounting courses, enabling instructors to implement best practices in science and accounting pedagogy based on new technologies; and
- give faculty and advisors improved protocols for assessing student preparedness and providing accurate and effective course placement.
The technological support for instructors will include:
- mobile carts with laptops for student use during class sessions;
- wireless projectors and tablet notebooks for use by instructors during lectures and demonstrations;
- accounting software (Peachtree, Quickbooks) on mobile cart laptops and tablet notebooks;
- in-service development activities with course-related text sites such as WileyPlus and Eduspace;
- laboratory equipment for the Chemistry and Biological Sciences departments; and
- in-service training to enhance the use of new technology.
