Veterans Mentor Program
S.T.R.I.V.E. (Supporting the Transition and Reentry in Veterans’ Education) provides peer-to-peer mentoring and fosters a personal connection among individual veterans. The primary goal of S.T.R.I.V.E. is to enable veterans to assist their fellow peers in problems they may encounter while transitioning from the military to college. Mentors also support the basic operation of the program.
Benefits of the Program
- Mentoring is a rich and rewarding opportunity to learn from fellow veterans who have gone through similiar experiences.
- Mentoring provides opportunities for dialogue to explore academic, career, and real-life issues and situations.
- Gain insight into yourself and how to achieve your goals.
- Establish new contacts and expand your personal network.
Applying to the Program
Once you decide to apply to the program, you will need to fill out an application. This form can be obtained in Shuster Hall, Room 238. The application is designed to identify your goals and interests and to find out why you would like to meet with a mentor. This information enables us to better match you with a mentor who has the background to serve your needs. After acceptance, we will match you with a potential mentor and ask him or her to contact you to arrange for an initial meeting. When the mentor and mentee agree to the match, they work together to schedule the first meeting and to begin a fruitful mentor relationship.
