Spotlight: Lehman Faculty Artists

May 17, 2011

This slide show showcases some of the work of Lehman College's Art faculty. In creating his piece Grid, Professor David Schwittek says he was inspired by, "their organic shapes and, for lack of a better word, attitude to create a larger composition wherein multiple copies coexisted. These gridded elements formed a unique kind of tension and movement when they were forced to share a small amount of space." Professor Herbert Broderick, who specializes in medieval Anglo-Saxon manuscripts, is researching the origins of the depiction of the prophet Moses in the Illustrated Old English Hexateuch, a mid-11th century Anglo-Saxon manuscript. This is the first depiction of Moses with horns in Western Art.
