Professor Zakin Honored as an Art Educator
June 13, 2011
Professor Andrea Zakin (Art / Early Childhood and Childhood Education) has won a 2011 RecognitionAward in the Higher Education category from the New York City Art Teachers Association and the United Federation of Teachers.
"It feels great to be recognized for the work that you do in your own little field," says Dr. Zakin, who is both an art educator and a painter. She also developed Lehman's graduate program in art education.
The focus of her research is on the cognitive process during artistic creation, the juncture of visual and verbal thinking, and aesthetic education.
Professor Zakin will receive her award at a reception in Manhattan on October 22, where she will lend her expertise to a workshop entitled "Outstanding Art Educator's Best Practices."
She holds a B.A. from Earlham College, an M.A. from Hunter College, and a Ph.D. from New York University.
