Guidelines for Downloading and Using Forms

Different web browsers tend to treat downloadable documents in different ways. The best way to ensure a successful download of your document is to right-click on the download link, choose “Save Target As...”, select a destination on your hard drive for the file, and click the “Save” button.

If the “Save Target As...” option isn't available to you, or if you have a single-button mouse, hold the “Shift” key down while you click on the link, select a destination on your hard drive for the file, and click the “Save” button.

If neither of the above options work, simply click normally on the link. Many of the forms (especially PDF forms) will open directly in the browser window. Otherwise, you will probably see a dialog box asking you to confirm the name and destination directory for the document you are downloading. Please note that if you are working on a form within your browser window, it is important to save the document to your hard drive if you want to keep a copy of your work.

The forms in this index are available in a variety of formats:

  1. PDF (Portable Document Format): The current standard for the platform-independent exchange of electronic documents. To view PDF files you need the Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is available free of charge at
  2. iPDF (Interactive PDF): Editable PDF documents. To view and edit iPDF documents you need the free Acrobat Reader (see above), but to save them you need to purchase Adobe Acrobat Software. The software is available from the Lehman College bookstore, or directly from Adobe.
  3. RTF (Rich Text Format): A generic text format supported by many word-processing applications.
  4. Microsoft Word document.
  5. Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.
