1. How do I connect to the Electronic Journals and Online Databases from off-campus?

For instructions click on  "Access From Home Instructions".

2. I typed in "www.databasename.com", but can't access the database

You can access licensed electronic databases from off-campus only through the Lehman College Library Web site via links on the "Electronic Databases and Resources by Title" page. 

3. I'm trying to access the databases from my office, but it keeps bouncing me back to my job website page

Many Lehman College students are able to access our electronic resources from their offices through a local area network. However, some networks' firewalls may block the ports used by the Library proxy server.

Restart your computer and try again. If a problem persists contact your network administrator.

4. I click on a database, it prompts me for a username & password.  How do I get this information?

When our "Electronic Database by Titles and Resources by Title" list indicates that a password is needed, call the Reference Desk at 718-960-8580 in order to obtain this information.  

When our "Electronic Database by Title and Resources by Title" list doesn't indicate that a password is needed, make sure that you access a database through the Lehman Library Website. If the problem persists restart your computer and try again.

5. The database cannot be found.

If you have difficulties accessing a database through the Lehman Library Web site, first, restart your computer. If you still have a message that a database cannot be found, call the Reference Desk at 718-960-8580 or e-mail stefanie.havelka@lehman.cuny.edu.

6. I can't access an e-journal.  It requests a username and password.

1. Make sure that you are trying to access an e-journal through the Lehman College Website.
2. Make sure that Lehman College has a "full-text" subscription to this e-journal. You may find this information on "Electronic Journals by Title" list.

7. I typed in my library number but can't get access.

I. Check at the Circulation Desk to confirm your ID is active.
2. Restart your computer.
3. Do not use spaces, dashes or any punctuation when typing in your library number.

8. Can I search databases from other CUNY libraries?

Electronic resources listed on a particular college Web site may be restricted to this college's users. All CUNY libraries are open for on-site use to anyone with a CUNY ID card.

Databases listed on "E-Journals and Reference Databases" page are available to all CUNY users. These CUNY-wide Library Resources are accessed through the CUNY Portal using the Library Number or Barcode of a currently validated CUNY ID card.

Anyone can use the CUNY+ Online Catalog.

9. How do I renew books online?

You may renew your materials online through the MY ACCOUNT feature of CUNY+, CUNY's online catalog. Just click on the MY ACCOUNT link on this page, or click on the MY ACCOUNT tab once you have entered the new CUNY+.  

  • You must have your Library barcode available.First time users, your Barcode and your password is your 14 digit library barcode located on your CUNY ID card. Please mote you may follow the instruction on the MY ACCOUNT screen about how to change your password.
  • After you are in MY ACCOUNT:
    1. Click on Loans. Click on the line # of the item you wish to renew.Click on renew.The changed due date will show on the screen. No further confirmation message is given.
    2. Phone renewals cannot be accepted.
