The Periodicals Room, located on the south side of the lower level of the Library, contains the magazine, journal and newspaper holdings of Lehman College, both in current year and previous years but excluding Education and Fine Arts journals and Science journals for previous years. All current year and previous years' bound copies of Education and Fine Arts journals are kept in their respective rooms along with the indexes you need to help you locate the articles and information you are looking for.
Current year journals and newspapers for Science and General Periodicals are kept behind the public service counter. A current valid student ID card must be presented at the counter to borrow the items for use in the room. The previous years collection, either gets bound and placed alphabetically by journal name in the Periodical Room stacks or up on the third floor journal holding area for Science Periodicals.
We hold on to the paper copies of the magazines until we receive a microfilm version of the journal or newspaper at which time we discard the paper copy and put the microfilm copy into drawers for storage and use in the microfilm room across the entrance hallway from the public service counter. All journals and newspapers that are in microfilm format, whether from Fine Arts, Education or the Science collections, are kept in the microfilm room in Periodicals. Microfilm machines are available in the Periodicals Room for viewing and printing the microfilm material.
Indexes for use in the Periodicals Room are located on the carrels near the public service counter. Science indexes are on the third floor arranged alphabetically by title in the rows preceding the journal holdings in the stacks on the south side of the building.
