SPECIAL COLLECTIONS

 

The special collections division of the Library (Room 230) contains such Lehman records as yearbooks, catalogs, newspapers, reports, photographs and memorabilia. Rare books and limited editions of books in various disciplines are also housed in the division’s temperature and humidity controlled environment. The Jose Luis Ponce de Leon Collection contains some 350 books supplemented by journals and special issues on the Spanish Civil War and its writers in exile. Additionally the division holds the Bronx Institute Archives. These materials include taped oral history interviews, local history books, maps and atlases, newspapers, clippings, postcards, photographs, slides and documents. Notable archival collections include: the Bronx Regional and Community History Oral Collection, the Bronx African American History Project, the Riverdale Neighborhood House Collection, the Papers of Jill Jonnes (South Bronx), the Fordham Manor Reformed Church Collection, the Rev. Dr. William A. Tieck Collection (Riverdale, Kingsbridge and Spuyten Duyvil), the Robert Loeb Collection (parks and forests), and the Bronx Chamber of Commerce Collection. The Bronx Business for Everybody website at: http://www.lehman.edu/provost/library/BronxBusiness is based on the Chamber’s collection. The site contains digitized images, Bronx web site links, book suggestions, and activities for school children.
