Hardship Tuition Deferment

(Please Note: Hardship Tuition Deferments are NOT available
during The Summer Session)

A Hardship Tuition Deferment requires the student to make an initial payment of 50% of their tuition liability plus all fees upon registration. Student fees CANNOT be deferred. The remaining 50% of the liability is divided into two (2) payments. The Second payment is due thirty (30) days after the first day of classes and the Third and final payment is due sixty (60) days after the first day of classes.

through the Lehman College eSIMS Web Registration /
Online Information System. After logging in, click on the link for "TUITION DEFERMENT, FIN AID AWARD REVIEW and BOOK VOUCHER" on the eSIMS home page.

Eligibility Conditions:

  • Undergraduate students (degree or non-degree) must register for a minimum of six (6) credits/equated credits per term.

  • Graduate students must register for at least four (4) credits per term.

  • Students must not have defaulted (payment after the assigned due date) on a prior Tuition Deferment. Defaulted deferments will have a 'No Deferment' stop placed on the college computer system.

  • Students that have defaulted on previous deferments may NOT receive additional deferments unless approved by the Vice-President of Student Affairs, the Executive Assistant to the Vice-President of Student Affairs or the Associate Dean of Student Affairs.

  • If a students defaults on either of the two (2) due dates (second payment or third and final payment), he/she will be charged a Late Payment fee of $15.00 for each of the missed due dates. In addition, if a student defaults on the third and final payment, he/she will no longer be eligible for a Hardship Deferment at Lehman College and his/her account may be referred to the University's collection agency for recovery of tuition due and all penalty fees. Finally, if the student defaults on the third and final payment, a hold (stop) will be placed on his/her permanent record, barring him/her from future registration and release of student records including transcripts. The student will remain liable for the balance due.

  • Deferments may be requested online using eSIMS or in person at Shuster Hall, rm. 127.

The Vice-President of Student Affairs must approve any deviation from the above noted guidelines!
