Lehman Names New Director of Student Research Engagement

Justine McGovern, PhD, LMSW is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work, has graciously accepted the position of Director of Student Research Engagement effective January 1, 2017. Prof. McGovern teaches core courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, as well as electives such as Social Work with Older Adults. Her research focuses on diverse experiences of aging, living with dementia, and increasing inclusivity by reducing bias in scholarship. Current funded projects include a study on perceptions about the future among LGBTQ participants, and an interdisciplinary exploration of ageism among intergenerational participants. Her expertise is in qualitative methods, including phenomenology, PhotoVoice, and focus groups. She publishes and presents locally and internationally. In this new role, Prof. McGovern will work with the Student Research Advisory Board to develop a model that maximizes opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students to engage in academic research, scholarship, and creative activities with Lehman faculty and staff.
