A student in legal F-1 status may accept employment on-campus provided the student is enrolled full-time in a degree program. On-campus employment means work performed on the school's premises such as the bookstore, academic department, etc. Since on-campus employment is limited at Lehman, you may wish to seek employment at any of the other CUNY campuses—this is also considered on-campus employment. On-campus employment is limited to 20 hours per week while school is in session, but you may work full-time during official school breaks. Before you begin on-campus employment you must provide a brief letter from the on-campus department that is going to hire you. Bring that letter to the International Student Services Coordinator, so that you can be issued an Employment Verification Form. Employment Verification is required by the Payroll Department.
International students must find their own on-campus employment. There is no centralized location for on-campus employment. Students must contact the individual department directly to see if employment is available. It is strongly suggested that you start your search early—before the beginning of each term.
F-1 students in their final semester can not work legally beyond the last day of classes.
