For the second straight season CSI managed to advance to the ECAC Metro NY/NJ Women's Basketball Tournament Championship, this time blazing past William Paterson University, 84-66, at the Sports and Recreation Center. The Dolphins started the game strong, scoring a 12-2 run midway through the first half to take a commanding 28-16 lead with 7:48 to go. Jaclyn Badagliacco's (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) layup at :49 gave CSI its biggest lead of the stanza, 45-32. The Pioneers did make things interesting in the second half, as a running layup by Lusila Custis (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark) with 8:30 to play cut the CSI lead to 61-56. The Dolphins responded with a run of their own, stretching their lead to a game-high 22 points with 1:14 to play. Leading the way for CSI was junior Jacclyn Rock (Staten Island, NY/New Dorp), who stretched the Pioneers for 21 points and 16 rebounds, while Stephanie Iosue (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) added 19 points. Custis led the Pioneers with 17 points, while Kat McPhail (Sparta, NJ/Hopatcong) added 11 in the losing effort. William Paterson ended their season with an 18-11 record, while the Dolphins upped their mark to 23-6, and will take on #4 Drew University at the Sports & Recreation Center, Sunday, at 8pm.
