2003-2004 CUNYAC Indoor Track & Field Championship

Indoor Track & Field Championship Preview

The 2004 CUNYAC Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held this Saturday, February 28th at the 168th St. Armory, in Washington Heights, New York.  The first event will be held at 6:00 PM.  Lehman is the defending champion on the women's side and Hunter will look to repeat on the men's side.

Three individual women to watch will be Hunter's senior Tiffanie Clarke, York's Tolulope Ojo (York), and Lehman freshman LaToya Spaulding.  Clark has turned in the fastest time in the 55 meters (7.25) and the 200 meters (26.24). Ojo is the favorite in the 800 and 1,500 meters after turning in the top-performances this past season with times of 2:21.59 and 5:00.00 respectively.  Spaulding has turned in the top performance in the 55 meter hurdles (8.67), the long jump (5.04 meters), and the triple jump (11.00 meters).  Others to watch will be junior Antonette Brown (CCNY) in the 55 and 200 meters, freshman Vanessa Pean (Medgar Evers) in the 400 meters, sophomore Amanda David (Medgar Evers) in the shot put, sophomore Danielle Okoro (Hunter) in the 400 meters, and senior Danielle Howard (Lehman) in the weight throw.

York sophomore Michael Brown and CCNY senior Dexter Wilson could grab a pair of gold medals in the men's event.  Brown registered the top-time in the 400 (49.98) and 800 (1:57.51) meters and Wilson is the favorite in the shot put (12.29 meters) and the weight throw (12.93 meters).  Others to watch will be freshman Rohan Russell (Medgar Evers) in the 55 meters, freshman Marvin Rainford (Lehman) in the 60 meters, junior Chester Williams (City Tech) in the 200 meters, sophomore Omri Holzman (Hunter) in the 1,500 meters, sophomore John McCollin (York) in the 60 meter hurdles,  sophomore Greg Terry (Lehman) in the long jump, and sophomore Edem Tsakpoe (Hunter) in the triple jump.
