Player of The Week - MIGUEL JAQUEZ, JOHN JAY
Jr. / OF / Telecommunication HS / Brooklyn, NY
The centerfielder dominated with his bat and his legs last week.
The junior hit .583 (7-for-12), scored nine runs and stole 12
bases in four contests, all of which were victories for John Jay.
After going 0-for-3 in the opener against Lehman, the Brooklyn
native hit safely in seven of his next nine at bats. The Telecommunications
product went 2-for-2 with three RBI and three stolen
bases in the nightcap versus Lehman. In the following game
against Baruch, the defending Player of the Year went 4-for-5
with a homer and six RBI. He completed the week with four
runs, three walks and three stolen bases in the second game
against Baruch.
Pitcher of The Week - NICK SECCHINI, STATEN ISLAND
Jr. / P / Tottenville HS / Staten Island, NY
The junior was dominant in his 8.0 innings of work last week for
the Dolphins as the Staten Island native fanned 15 of the 28
batters he faced. He struck out an amazing 13 batters over 7.0
innings in Sunday’s victory against St. Joseph’s (LI). In the contest,
he allowed just two hits and did not hand out a single free
pass. The defending Pitcher of the Year also pitched a scoreless
inning and struck out two batters against Kean.
Rookie of The Week - CHRIS REYES, STATEN ISLAND
Fr. / C / Tottenville HS / Staten Island, NY The freshman hit safely in all four contests last week. The catcher
went a combined 3-for-5 with a double and a walk in the
doubleheader against Villa Julie (MD). The Staten Island native
went 2-for-3 with a double in the loss against St. Joseph’s (LI).
The Tottenville graduate is batting .529 and has a .765 slugging
percentage this season.
