BARUCH 2-0 on the week
The Statesmen came back in both games to earn important conference
wins over York and Lehman. John Alesi hit the game winning basket
with 3.2 seconds left and finished with 19 to edge Lehman and move into
the top spot in the North. Lou Pento led the way with 23 and 11 caroms.
BROOKLYN 0-3 on the week
Sean Wallace had another fine week for Brooklyn, averaging 24.0 points
per game, including two 27-point efforts in losses to CCNY and York,
while hitting 86% of his free throws. Kevon Thomas hit all five of his
field goals and finished with 12 points vs. Yeshiva.
CCNY 2-1 on the week
The Beavers could have went 3-0 on the week if they held on to their 20-
point second half lead over Lehman, which they promptly lost in the 78-73
contest. Junior transfer Edwin Caceres averaged 19.7 points on the
week while shooting 56% from the floor. He tallied a season-high 22 vs.
Hunter, with rookie Daryl France scoring 15 in the Brooklyn victory.
HUNTER 1-2 on the week
The Hawks managed a 1-2 week during a three-game stretch that saw
them drop games to Medgar Evers and CCNY. Junior Daniel Wuebben
averaged 20.3 points while shooting 58% from the field, including a sea-son-
high effort of 22 points in the win over John Jay. Rookie Donte King
added 11 against the Bloodhounds.
JOHN JAY 1-1 on the week
The Bloodhounds enjoyed a narrow victory on the road at City Tech and
lost a close battle to East side rival Hunter. Edmund Scott continues to
pace John Jay as he netted 21 points on 8 of 12 shooting vs. Hunter, while
David Myrie also chipped in 17. Jay shot 56% fro mthe field and 77%
from the charity stripe and lost.
LEHMAN 2-1 on the week
The Lightning almost capped a perfect week, but their plans were spoiled
by a Baruch comeback in the closing minutes. Edgar Lugo scored 27 in
the come-from-behind win at CCNY and added 18 more against the States-men.
Luis Chavez chipped in 13 in the finale while Chris Bowman had
a huge effort with 11 points and 10 rebounds against Staten Island.
MEDGAR EVERS 1-0 on the week
Against York, playing in the game for the first time, the Venezuelan-born
freshman guard Alexander Colon's only shot of the game was a
game-winning 3-pt shot with :12 remaining helping the Cougars to edge
York, 54-52. Colon followed up this solid performance against City Tech
by scoring 11 points in a MEC division win. Senior forward Anthony
Henderson added 15 pts vs. City Tech.
NY CITY TECH 1-1 on the week
Roger Redhead had a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) as did
Sam Deadwyler (14 points, 10 rebounds), with Ray Paul being high
scorer with 17 points. City Tech scored a major upset with a 80-74 win
at CSI, with Redhead once again earning a double-double (24 points,
11 rebounds) as five players were in double figures. In a home loss to
Evers, Paul led Tech with 24.
STATEN ISLAND 0-2 on the week
The Dolphins dropped their first two CUNY games of the year last week.
Despite 17 points and 10 rebvounds from rookie John Smith and an-other
12 from Champ Albano, CSI lost at Lehman. Two days later they
were stunned once again by City Tech at home. David Paul tallied 28 and
Albano 11, but that wasn't enough.
YORK 1-2 on the week
The Cardinals broke through from their two-game skid with a road win at
Brooklyn. Dwayne Uriri posted 11 points and 12 rebounds while also
being the high scorer for York with 16 in the Evers loss. Roberto Tapia
led had 21 and Jesse Cotton came off the bench to add 17 vs. Brooklyn.
