CUNYAC Men's Tennis - April 01, 2002
Player of The Week - Fahad Sarwani, Baruch So., #1, Al Manamah, Bahrain
Sarwani has been a pleasant surprise for
Baruch head coach Florin Giuglescu at
the number one position. A mature and
skilled player, Sarwani, who now resides
in New Jersey, disposed of John Jay's
Vitaly Zubri, 6-1, 6-3 and then City Tech's
Henry Newton 10-0 to move the States-men
to 2-0 in conference action. In
doubles he partnered with Vladimir
Golden to win 8-1 and 8-0 in the two contests.
Rookie of The Week - Vladimir Golden, Baruch So., #2, Brooklyn, NY
A new player to the Statesmen, Golden
won two CUNY matches so far, beating
John Jay's Dino DeSeverio 6-4, 6-2 and
followed that with a 10-0 win over City
Tech's Fernando Andrade. In doubles, the
Brooklyn Technical HS graduate teamed
with Fahad Sarwani to win 8-1 and 8-0 in
the two matches. In Baruch's other match,
against Mercy College, a Division II school,
both Sarwani & Golden dropped their singles, but won in 1st doubles.
