Player of The Week - Karthik Jothianandan, CCNY Jr. / #5 flight / New York, NY
A three-year starter for the Beavers,
Jothianandan, the #5 singles player
mowed down three CUNY opponents last
week. In a 2-1 week for the team, the
Roslyn High School graduate beat City
Tech's Peter Jones 6-0, 6-0; Brooklyn's
Mgrank Shukla 6-3, 6-2; and Hunter's Alex
Brown 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 to improve to 7-1 on
the year in singles. In doubles, he split
his two matches and holds a 3-2 mark on
the season.
Rookie of The Week - Oded Merion, Hunter Fr. / #2 flight / Ramat Aviv, Island
After starting the season at #4 on the depth
chart for the Hawks, Meiron moved to #2 a
few matches into the season. Last week
he won three singles matches to improve
to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in CUNY. Though
the squad went 1-2, the K. I. Chavarim
school alum beat opponents from
Rutgers-Newark 6-4, 0-6, 6-3, followed by
CCNY's Michael Kessler 6-4, 6-0 and City
Tech's Henry Newton 6-0, 6-0.
