Player of The Week - Alejandro Flores, Lehman Fr., 6'7", OH, Moca, Dominican Rep.

Alejandro Flores

The newcomer for the Lightning has given an added boost to an already talented squad. The 6'7 outside hitter from Dominican Republic is averaging 4.8 kills (101), 1.0 digs (20), and 0.5 (11) aces per game. He also helped the Lightning capture the tournament title at the Stevens Tech Invitational for the second consecutive year, as he was named the tournament MVP. He posted 51 kills in the three tourney wins.

Rookie of The Week - Sebastian Hoffman, CCNY Fr., 6'7, MB, Germany

The freshman middle blocker for CCNY had an aggressive start, leading his team with great all around numbers. A native of Germany who resides in Brooklyn, Hoffman is averaging 4.0 kills (.720 hitting %) and 1.6 blocks per game. The 6'7 freshman led the Beavers to a 3-0 victory over NY City Tech and was one the most active players in a grueling 2-3 loss against the Lehman Lightning.

CUNYAC / STATE FARM notes

BARUCH 0-1 on the week
The Statesmen had a tough start to their season with a five-game loss at York, coming back from two down to send the match to the fifth and deciding game. Senior Ioannis Michaelides led Baruch with 10 kills, 6 solo blocks and 5 digs while freshman hitter Jose Ra added 8 kills and 15 assists.

BROOKLYN 0-1 on the week
The Bridges came out on the wrong end of the Brooklyn battle as they were beaten in tthe season opener at home by Medgar Evers. The young Brooklynites were paced by Genri Privalov's 10 kills, with Adam Wysocki adding 8 more.

CCNY 1-1 on the week
The promising Beavers won their opener in straight sets over City Tech only to run into a stumbling block named Lehman two nights later and losing in five. Owen Niles continued where he left off with 34 kills and 13 solo blocks for the week, while freshman middle blocker Sebastian Hoffman added 30 kills and 12 blocks.

HUNTER 2-1 onthe week
The Hawks began the new campaign with two CUNY wins over the upstart Medgar Evers Cougars and at John Jay, but slipped at home to Sacred Heart. Returnees Justin Stack and Alfred Daos led the way with 40 and 37 kills respectively, while freshman Ray Bello is fitting right in as the setter with 10.0 apg.

JOHN JAY 0-2 on the week
The Hounds lost thier first two matches of the season, both in conference competition. Senior 6'3 middle blocker Igor Meystelman led the way for the week with 12 kills, 12 digs and 5 solo blocks, with fellow senior Kevin Kozub adding 10 digs and 4 kills.

LEHMAN 6-0 on the week
The Lightning are red hot in 2002. Junior Garcia's squad not only knocked off CCNY at home in five games, but also managed to let NECVA competition know how good they are by knocking off Ramapo, New Jewrsey City and Stevens to win the Stevsns Invitational for the 2nd straight year. 6'7 freshman Alejandro Flores earned MVP honors with 51 kills, while converted setter Troy Jimenez paced the strong squad with 176 assists during their 6-0 start. Flores (50 kills) and Max Valerio (41 kills) led Lehman to their toughest win yet over CCNY.

MEDGAR EVERS 1-1 on the week
The Cougars are off to a 1-1 start after losing at Hunter and dropping Brooklyn. Last year's rookie of the year Irwin Pascal picked up where he left off, with 38 kills, 25 digs and 8 block assists for the week while freshman outside hitter Andre Ewin added 27 kills and 16 digs.

NY CITY TECH 0-1 on the week
The Yellow Jackets were swept in three straight by CCNY in their only action. Freshman Eder Mathelier led City Tech with 6 kills (of the team's 21) while sophomore Rohan Lewis recorded 7 assists.

YORK 1-0 on the week
Senior outside hitter Binchu John has the Cardinals off to a 1-0 start after his 21 kills and 59 digs led York over Baruch. Versatile freshman Jude Aboladin added 43 digs and 5 kills and setter Christakis Aristodemu chipped in with 49 assists.
