BARUCH 1-2 on the week
As expected, the Stateswomen, under third year coach Bob DiNardo,
have surpassed last year's six wins, only half way through the season
and boast CUNYAC's highest win percentage at .636. Sophomore guard
Stephanie Trahan continued to lead the team with 43 points in 3 games.
BROOKLYN 0-2 on the week
Despite being on the losing side in both contests, the Bridges got two
strong performances from senior guard Katima Emptage with 42 points
and 16 rebounds.
CCNY 1-2 on the week
Junior center Clarice Bell set a new school record with eight blocks in
the Beavers' last minute loss to Centenary at home last week. The Long
Island City native also had 15 points and nine boards in the contest. CCNY
also received a strong week from freshman guard Kim Neos with 12
ppg and 9.3 rebounds over the span.
HUNTER 2-1 on the week
The Hawks fell back to the .500 mark in January after dropping the
Lehman game, but stormed back with two easy wins over Baruch and
Regis. Senior center Melodie Abrook had a very strong week, averaging
10 points and 9.3 rebounds over three games, including a double-double
against Baruch (12 points, 14 boards).
JOHN JAY 1-2 on the week
5'9 sophomore forward Cherith Pointer continues to lead the Blood-hounds
in the rebounding department. She grabbed 37 caroms in three
games last week, for a 12.3 average and scored 12 points against Stevens
Tech followed by 10 points versus CCNY.
LEHMAN 1-0 on the week
Sophomore forward Chanel Kendall, the 2001 CUNYAC Rookie of the
Year and her frontcourt mate Florena Rhodes were 'held' to 17 and 15
points respectively in the Lightning's first win over Hunter since 1985.
The pair is the highest scoring tandem in the league, both averaging over
20 points on the season.
MEDGAR EVERS 0-2 on the week
The Lady Cougars have lost four straight as they face their closest
rival, Brooklyn on Tuesday night. Junior center Keisha Toms led the
squad with 14 points and 18 rebounds in their loss to John Jay last week.
NY CITY TECH 1-2 on the week
The Yellow Jackets got their first victory of the season, last week as
theu welcomed back Camille Manning to the lineup. The 5-7 sophomore
guard sat out last season, but returned to action for the last two games,
netting 51 points in the pair.
STATEN ISLAND 2-0 on the week
The Dolphins were on the strong side of two lopsided games last week,
as they defeated Rutgers-Newark by 32 points and Medgar Evers by 31
on Saturday. Junior forward Keisha Cook averaged 17.5 points, 15
rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.5 steals in limited action.
YORK 1-2 on the week
The Cardinals went 1-2 to start the week as they hosted three games
over in consecutive days. Freshman guard Tushana Watson led York
with 42 points and 23 rebounds in the three games.
