BARUCH 2-1 on the week
The Stateswomen earned an important road win at York and then dis-posed
of Yeshiva before bowing to North Division leader Lehman. Cathy
Gonzalez had a key steal in the closing seconds as Baruch preserved a
narrow lead after letting a 50-32 margin slip away. Stephanie Trahan
has a season-high 10 assists vs. Yeshiva and added 26 points vs. Lehman.
BROOKLYN 0-3 on the week
Senior do-it-all guard Katima Emptage posted a double-double with 23
points and 10 rebounds against Purchase and then added 21 points, 12
boards and 10 steals for her first career triple-double in the loss to York.
Tracy Altifios added 6.0 rebounds per game.
CCNY 1-2 on the week
Samantha Halpern, back from a severe ankle sprain, totalled a season-high
32 points in her first outing since December 30th and tied the CUNY
record with 10 three-pointers versus Brooklyn. She added 17 and 21 in
consequent losses to Lehman and Hunter.
HUNTER 3-0 on the week
Hawks have reeled off 8 straight wins and have a chance to overtake
Lehman for the top seed if they beat them today at the Sportsplex. Senior
forward Shevon Collins has carried the team in the last two wins, while
ten different players scored in the lopsided win over Medgar Evers. The
102 points was the most they scored since 113 in 1986. Jen Rogers led
the way with 22 with Vana Loukissas adding 15 on 6 of 6 shooting.
JOHN JAY 2-1 on the week
The Hounds are showing signs of improvement with a 2-1 week in which
they lost a close one to Hunter. Cherith Pointer had 13 points and 8
rebounds while December Bails added 16 boards. In the win over New
Rochelle, Pointer added a double-double with 12 points and 13 boards.
LEHMAN 3-0 on the week
The Lightning have a chance to win their first outright CUNY regular
season title since 1982 (were co-champs in '84 and North Division champs
in '99), and thus the #1 tournament seed should they knock off Hunter
tonight. Chanel Kendall had a great week with a 21.0 ppg average and
three double-doubles. In the huge win over CSI she posted 22 points, 12
rebounds and 8 assists. Freshman Christina Calderon added 12 points.
MEDGAR EVERS 1-2 on the week
Center Keisha Toms compiled three double-doubles with 19 points
and 11 rebounds vs. Hunter, 10 points and 14 rebounds vs. York and,
14 points and 16 rebounds against City Tech. Rookie Jewel Wallace
added 10 points, 14 rebounds and 2 steals in her first significant action
of the season while Rannie Miles led the way with 24.
NY CITY TECH 0-3 on the week
Sophomore Camille Manning was a bright spot, with strong scoring
and rebounding efforts. Against John Jay, Manning scored 15 points
with Iasha Pryor picking up the rebounding slack by collecting 15. At
CSI, Manning scored 26 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, and against
Medgar Evers she led the team with 29 points and 8 rebounds.
STATEN ISLAND 2-1 on the week
The Dolphins dropped a close one at Lehman after trailing the entire
game and with it any chance for the overall CUNYAC top seed. Keisha
Cook and Pam Barone tallied 22 and 21 points. CSI has already clinched
the South Division crown. Donna Przybyszewski paced the young CSI
squad with 21 points apiece in wins over City Tech and Mt. St. Vincent.
YORK 2-1 on the week
The Cardinals ended their 2002 slump with consecutive wins over Medgar
Evers and Brooklyn after a home loss to Baruch. Rookie Tashana Watson
led the offensive effort with 16 vs. Baruch and added 13 more against
Evers while Angela Mills scored a team-high 15 at City Tech.
