BARUCH 2-0 on the week
The Stateswomen, under third year head coach Bob DiNardo, have
gotten off to a refreshing start to the season. The pair of wins equals the
season total from DiNardo's first season. Junior forward Jamees Wright
(Bergtraum/NY, NY) and freshman guard Stephanie Trahan (Roxbury
Central/NY, NY) led the squad each scoring 31 points over the two con-tests/
BROOKLYN 0-1 on the week
The Bridges fell to local rival St. Joseph's in new coach Erin Flanagan's
debut, as senior guard Katima Emptage (New Dorp/Staten Island, NY)
scored 12 of the team's 23 points. Brooklyn will play more non-confer-ence
games this week before matching up with York on December 5th.
CCNY 1-0 on the week
CCNY's triple threat of Lauren Cargill (Cardozo/Valley Stream, NY),
Victoria Rautilia (Lulea, Sweden) and newcomer Samantha Halpern
(Minneapolis CC/Shelton CT) scored 59 of the Beavers' 73 points in their
win over St. Joseph's (LI) last Tuesday. The trio also connected on 11
three-pointers, with Cargill hitting five of them.
HUNTER 1-2 on the week
The defending CUNY North Division Champs are under .500 after drop-ping
their last two contests. The Hawks won the opening game in their
Tip-Off Tournament over St. Joseph's (LI), but slipped against Wesleyan
and Vassar. Senior forward Shevon Collins (Canarsie/Brooklyn, NY)
has started off well, averaging 14.7 points and 6.3 rebounds.
JOHN JAY 0-1 on the week
The Bloodhounds, under third-year head coach John LoSasso, fell at
home 62-46 in the season opener to Old Westbury, on their home court,
"The Doghouse." Sophomore forward December Bails (F.D. Academy/
Brooklyn, NY) led the team with 15 points and seven steals (a CUNY
season high). They hope to notch a win at Yeshiva on Tuesday night.
LEHMAN 0-2 on the week
Sophomore all-star forwards Chanel Kendall (F.D.R./Brooklyn, NY) and
Florena Rhodes (St. Michael's/Queens, NY) led the Lightning in a pair of
losses at the College of New Jersey Tournament last week, scoring at a
20 pg clip and 17 pg clip respectively. Head coach Eric Harrison's squad
will host twin brother Derrick's team on Wednesday night at the APEX
(6:00 pm.) Eric holds a 3-1 record against his younger brother over the
last two seasons, including the last two in a row.
MEDGAR EVERS 0-2 on the week
The Cougars have received improved play from sophomore center Keisha
Toms (Seattle, WA) with 10.0 points and 14.5 rebounds a game. The
Cougars will host York in the CUNY opener for both on Wednesday night.
NY CITY TECH 0-2 on the week
City Tech junior center Iasha Pryor (Brooklyn, NY) has stood out in the
Yellow Jackets first two contests, averaging seven points and seven
boards. City Tech will host Staten Island on Wednesday night, as both
squads begin conference action.
STATEN ISLAND 2-1 on the week
Even with a young team and an injured point guard, the defending cham-pion
Dolphins gave NJ Athletic Conference power Ramapo a tough time in
RC's tip-off tournament. Sophomore sensation Pamela Barone (St. John
Villa/SI, NY) is filling in at the point for newcomer Katie Morreale (New
Dorp/SI, NY), who is trying to play through a knee injury. Barone, a 5'4
guard, is averaging team highs in points (20.7), assists (4.3) and three
pointers (10-19, 53%), while also grabbing 5.7 caroms.
YORK 0-2 on the week
Tushana Watson, a 5'5 freshman from August Martin HS in Queens,
is already a go-to-player for head coach Jackie Smith's club. She's
averaging 18 points and 8 rebounds, as York heads into CUNYAC
play with a tilt at Medgar Evers on Wednesday. Watson scored a
season-high 23 points in the opening loss to Old Westbury.
