Player of The Week - Florena Rhodes, Lehman So., 5'8", F, Queens, NY

Florena Rhodes

Last season as a freshman, Rhodes had an all-star season, leading the Lightning to an 11-2 CUNY mark. This year she kicked off the league schedule with a 27point performance against CCNY. In the win, the St. Michael's Academy graduate shot 13-18 from the field, grabbed 14 rebounds and had 6 steals. She followed that up with a 16 point (8-14 FG), 9 rebound game versus St. Joseph's (VT).

Rookie of The Week - Tushana Watson Fr., 5'5", G, Queens, NY

Watson, a freshman from August Martin HS, is the Rookie of the Week for the second straight time. The freshman guard led all scorers in the Cardinals first CUNY win over Medgar Evers with 24 points, shooting 9-16 from the field and 6-8 from the charity stripe, and she had 15 rebounds. On the young season, she's averaging 19.2 points, 9 rebounds and 4.4 steals a game (all stats lead York).

CUNYAC / CON EDISON NOTES

BARUCH 1-0 on the week
The Stateswomen continued their strong play with their third consecutive win to start the season. Junior forward Jamees Wright (Bergtraum/ New York, NY) scored a CUNY season high 29 points (she also grabbed 14 rebounds) in the win over Yeshiva. Junior Stephanie Trahan (Roxbury Central/New York, NY) added 17 points in the victory.

BROOKLYN 0-3 on the week
The Bridges are still searching for a win under rookie coach Erin Flanagan. Senior guard Katima Emptage (New Dorp/Staten Island, NY) tallied 15 of BC's 19 points in the most recent game against Baptist Bible.

CCNY 0-3 on the week
The Lady Beavers had a difficult week, losing three games on the road, including their CUNY opener to Lehman. Junior forward Samantha Halpern (Minneapolis CC/Shelton, CT) led City with 20 ppg on the week, including 26 against Tufts. Junior forward Rahmat Balogun (M. L. King / Brooklyn, NY) had a career high 25 boards in the Lehman loss.

HUNTER 0-0 on the week
The Hawks enjoyed a rare week off, but will jump right into action with two conference games on the slate this week. Monday, Hunter will trek crosstown to John Jay (5 pm) and Friday (6 pm) CCNY will be their opponent at the Sportsplex for Homecoming.

JOHN JAY 1-2 on the week
The Bloodhounds won their first, following an 0-3 start, beating SUNY-Purchase on the road over the weekend. Sophomore forward Cherrith Pointer had 16 points and 19 rebounds in the game. The 5'9 Midwood HS grad averaged 17.7 rebounds for the week.

LEHMAN 2-0 on the week
Head coach Eric Harrison's team beat his identical twin, Derrick's CCNY squad on Wednesday for the third consecutive time. Sophomore forward Florena Rhodes (St. Michael's/Queens, NY) had a super game with 27 points (on 13-18 FG shooting) with 14 rebounds. With his win over St. Joseph's (VT) on Saturday, Harrison became the winningest coach in Lehman history with 55 wins, passing CUNYAC Executive Director Ted Hurwitz' record.The Lightning will face nationally ranked NYU tonight down in Greenwich Villiage.

MEDGAR EVERS 1-2 on the week
The Lady Cougars beat St. Elizabeth on Monday by five points, a week after falling to the New Jersey school by four points at Ramapo's tournament. Sophomore center Keisha Toms (Seattle, WA) grabbed 20 boards in two games last week. She leads CUNY with a 17.7 average.

NY CITY TECH 0-1 on the week
The Yellow Jackets fell to Staten Island in their only contest of the week. City Tech is still searching for their first win against CSI (0-5) and on the season. City Tech junior center Iasha Pryor (Brooklyn, NY) had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

STATEN ISLAND 1-1 on the week
Two days after topping NY City Tech, the defending champions looked flat in an 82-73 loss across the Hudson River to Stevens Tech. Sophomore all-star Pamela Barone (St. John Villa/Staten Island, NY) was her usual self with 23 points, six rebounds and three steals. Freshman Stephanie Iosue (St. Peter's/Staten Island, NY) is coming along well for the Dolphins. The 5'3 guard had 10 assists against City Tech and 14 points against the Ducks.

YORK 1-2 on the week
In their CUNY opener, freshman Tushana Watson (August Martin/Queens, NY) was superb with 24 points and 15 rebounds. The 5'8" guard also shot 9-16 from the floor and 6-8 from the line in the contest. The Cardinals came back winless from a trip to North Carolina over the weekend in a tournament held at Barber-Scotia College in Concord, North Carolina.
