Player of The Week - Nora Wnuk, Hunter- Sr, MH, New York, NY

A four-year starter, Wnuk is finally the Hawks top hitter in her senior season. In six matches last week she averaged 14.8 kills per match in the team's six matches. She also had 57 kills, 16 aces and 12 blocks as she was named to the All-Tournament team. For the year the 5'11 Beacon HS grad is averaging 3.63 kills per game, 2.73 digs and hitting at a .249 clip.

Rookie of The Week - Erja Vettenranta, CCNY - Fr, OH, Jarva, Finland

Vettenranta led CCNY to another undefeated week with a win over Staten Island in straight sets. In the one match, the 5'7 freshman outside hitter from Finland had 7 kills, 12 digs and an amazing 16 service aces. She continues to lead CUNY in multiple categories, as the Beavers put their six-game winning streak on the line heading into the Medgar Evers match on Tuesday.

CUNYAC / STATE FARM notes

BARUCH 0-3 on the week
Dropped a pair of CUNYAC matches (and one non-conference match) last week, as the Stateswomen finally got back into action. First coach Jimmy Lam's team fell in four games to Lehman, then on Thursday, they lost a five-setter, 17-15 in the final game to Medgar Evers.

BROOKLYN 0-3 on the week
The Bridges extended each of their three matches last week into extra games, but are still looking for their first win of the season. Senior Nicole Berish led the squad with 16 kills, 17 digs and seven service aces in a tri-match with New Rochelle and Old Westbury over the weekend.

CCNY 1-0 on the week
Bseides Erja Vettenranta, Catherine Martinez has had a stellar start to her collegiate playing career. A former high school player for current CCNY coach Robert Pichardo at Clinton HS in the Bronx, she had 13 kills, 10 digs and five aces in their only match.

HUNTER 3-3 on the week
After stretching their CUNYAC win streak to 61 straight matches with a win over City Tech, the Hawks went up to the Hartwick Tournament in Oneonta. The five-time defending CUNY Champs went 1-3, falling to Vassar, Ithaca and Geneseo State before rebounding to beat the host school. Freshman Annette Mpinja continues to shine with 48 kills, 50 digs and 12 aces in 20 games last week.

JOHN JAY 2-0 on the week
The Bloodhounds have won four matches in a row after beating Medgar Evers in straight sets, followed by a four-game win over Pratt. The Bloodhounds face Baruch at home tommorrow night, before finishing the week with two non-conference games.

LEHMAN 3-2 on the week
The Lightning finished in fifth place at the Elmira Tournament, beating CUNY foe York in the consolation match after falling to Clarkson and the host school. In 31 games last week junior setter Sakeena Esteves (who was named to the All-Tournament team) had 70 assists and 25 kills, while outside hitter Madelayne Garcia had 40 kills, 19 digs and nine aces. The Lightning (3-1 CUNY) face Hunter Tuesday night at the APEX.

MEDGAR EVERS 2-1 on the week
The Cougars continued their climb up the league standings with a five-set victory over Baruch after a loss at John Jay, to put them at 1-2 in league action. A win over SUNY-Maritime puts Evers on a two game streak as they prepare for CCNY and Mount St. Vincent this week.

NYC TECHNICAL 0-1 on the week
The Yellow Jackets, still searching for their first victory (0-6) face Brooklyn (0-5) tommorrow night at home. On Saturday, City Tech goes to Bard for a tri-match with SUNY-Purchase.

STATEN ISLAND 0-2 on the week
The young Dolphin squad continues their rough start, freshman Donna Przybyszewski led the way in two matches last week with nine kills and 21 digs, fellow newcomer Kim Rutter added 12 kills and ten aces.

YORK 0-3 on the week
The Cardinals travelled to the Elmira Tournament for some upstate competition and ended up playing two schools from the area and SUNY Potsdam. In the three matches, freshman outside hitter Maria Montenegro had 11 kills, 15 assists and 14 digs.
