Player of The Week - Nora Wnuk, Hunter - Sr, MH, New York, NY

Wnuk, who has never lost a match to a CUNYAC opponent after their ninth win this year over Staten Island, (Hunter's streak stands at 66), continues to pile up big numbers. Over the Hawks five matched last week, the 6'0 middle hitter averaged 16.2 kills (.317 pct.), 12 digs and 3.4 aces a match, including 29 digs against Mt. St. Mary to start the week. Wnuk is second in CUNYAC in kills per game at 4.0.

Rookie of The Week - Catherine Martinez , CCNY - Fr, OH, Bronx, NY

A 5'6 outside hitter, Martinez made the transition from coach Robert Pichardo's high school team (DeWitt Clinton) to his collegiate squad without missing a beat. Last week, as CCNY clinched the #2 seed in the upcoming tournament by beating York and John Jay, she had 29 kills, 24 digs and 11 aces while hitting 49% for the week. Martinez ranks #2 in CUNYAC in hitting percentage at .346.

CUNYAC / STATE FARM notes

BARUCH 2-1 on the week
Junior outside hitter Jeannette Espinosa led the Stateswomen with 24 digs and 10 aces in their three matches, Freshman outside hitter Suzan Wu, who had 17 kills and 4 aces in the Brooklyn and NY City Tech wins.

BROOKLYN 0-5 on the week
As the Bridges fell to the eighth spot in the league, senior Nicole Berish (Brooklyn, NY) continued her strong play with 34 kills and 15 aces (including 12 against CSI) in five matches.

CCNY 2-0 on the week
Freshman sensation Erja Vettenranta led the Beavers with 29 kills, 25 digs and 10 service aces in two wins, while hitting well above her season average of .418. They clinched second place in the CUNYAC standings with a 8-1 mark, with five freshman in the starting lineup.

HUNTER 2-3 on the week
The Hawks had their 11-match winning streak stopped this weekend. The squad also suffered a huge setback when setter and team leader Jezel Rodriguez went down with an ankle sprain over the weekend, as they dropped matches to Kean, USMMA and NYU. Freshman middle hitter Annette Mpinja (Peoria, AZ) collected 49 kills and 21 digs for the week.

JOHN JAY 3-1 on the week
Each of the Bloodhounds three wins last week were straight victories (York, City Tech and Stevens Tech). Kerri Koslosky, the Nebraska native, continues to pace the squad in hitting percentage (.273), while freshman Andi Zhao leads them in kills per game (2.5) and digs (1.3).

LEHMAN 1-0 on the week
The Lightning clinched third place in the CUNYAC standings with a straight set win over surging Medgar Evers. Junior setter Sakeena Esteves had 14 digs, 13 assists and 8 kills, while fellow setter Esmeralda Camacho added 18 assists and 16 digs.

MEDGAR EVERS 3-1 on the week
The Cougars have won six of their last seven matches under second-year head coach Avril O'Neal, including a 5-4 CUNY mark. The team has secured a winning record for the first time since 1987 (12-11). Freshman Wendy Pierre had 26 kills, 6 aces and 5 blocks for the week. Sophomore setter Crystal Noel 121 assists.

NY CITY TECHNICAL 0-3 on the week
Setter Sandy Kouw leads the Yellow Jackets at 2.5 kills per game, as they wind down their season. Due to NY City Tech's provisional membership, the team will be ineligible for the upcoming CUNYAC Tournament.

STATEN ISLAND 2-2 on the week
For the second straight week, the Dolphins went 2-2, beating Stevens Tech and Brooklyn. With the win over Brooklyn, CSI has clinched the home court for the CUNYAC play-in game on Monday, October 22. Freshman Donna Przybyszewski once again led CSI with 53 kills, 18 digs and eight aces in the four matches, while Melissa Quiles added 26 digs.

YORK 0-1 on the week
The Cardinals dropped their only match of the week at CCNY, freshman Maria Montenegro had 16 digs and four kills and three blocks in the contest.
