Player of The Week - Ivan Popov, CCNY - Sr., F, Bronx, NY

Popov is continuing where he left off from a year ago when he was selected as CUNY MVP. The 5'6 speedster tallied 3 goals and added an assist in the Beavers two dominant conference victories over Medgar Evers and Hunter. The Monroe High School product leads CCNY with 4 goals and 2 assists on the year and more importantly pushing them to the top of the conference standings.

Rookie of The Week - Evan Jean-Pierre, York - Fr., MF, Queens, NY

The 5'5 freshman midfielder has filled in the playmaking void quite nicely for the Cardinals in their season-opener. The Haiti native (Canarsie High School) scored two goals and set up another in York's win, while having a hand in the other three tallies. Jean-Pierre put York up 2-0 in the 16th minute and scored the team's final goal in the 88th, earlier crossing the ball to Eduardo Brito for his scoring header in the 85th minute.

CUNYAC / BRINE notes

BARUCH 0-1 on the week
Bobby Francis lost his coaching debut with the Statesmen, 8-1 to CSI...Pedro Fevallos scored the lone goal for the Statesmen in the 77th minute off a set piece, assisted by Philip Slahin. Freshman defender Dwayne Campbell (Campus Magnet HS) played very well in his first collegiate game.

BROOKLYN 0-1 on the week
Antonio Superbia was another victim of starting out on the wrong end of the scoreboard, as the Bridges lost 2-0 to John Jay. Goalkeeper Yevgeniy Vortman (E.R. Murrow) made 8 saves while senior Euborne Springer played well in the losing cause.

CCNY 2-0 on the week
The Beavers shut out both of their CUNY opponents last week, dropping last year's finalist Medgar Evers 3-0 and Hunter 5-0 at home. Goalkeeper Roger Cyrus has recorded 3 shutouts in 4 games played, while Ivan Popov leads the attack with 4 goals.

HUNTER 0-2 on the week
The Hawks are still in search of some offense as they have yet to score a goal in five games. Both conference losses have come against unbeaten CUNY teams in John Jay and CCNY.

JOHN JAY 2-1 on the week
After dropping a game at Rutgers, the Bloodhounds bounced back with wins over Hunter and Brooklyn without allowing a goal. Freshman forwards Jean Gomez and Jason Bowrey accounted for 4 goals on the week while the defense held solid.

MEDGAR EVERS 0-4 on the week
The Cougars dropped four straight last week, including two at the Manhattanville Tournament. Goalkeeper David Allen and midfielder Thomas Nelson were named to the All-Tournament team.

NYC TECHNICAL 1-1 on the week
The Yellow Jackets lost their season-opener at York on Saturday, but earned their first win a day later over Polytechnic (2-1). George Ofosu tallied the lone goal against the defending CUNY champs.

STATEN ISLAND 1-1 on the week
After a disappointing performance against NYU the Dolphins took their anger out on Baruch with an 8-1 win. Tom Consolmagno, out with injury all of last year, came back strong with a hat-trick. Haider Abbas and Marwan Amer added two goals apiece in the victory.

YORK 1-0 on the week
The Cardinals are poised to defend their crown based on their season-opening 6-1 win over City Tech. Despite graduating most of their championship team and losing their head coach, York has several new gems, including Evan Jean-Pierre (2 goals and an assist) and Cheick Keita (1 goal, 1 assist). Captain Chimela Okoro is anchoring the defense.
