Player of The Week - Gerhard Sarkodie, CCNY - Jr., FW, Bronx, NY

Gerhard Sarkodie

While starting for the Beavers during the previous two seasons, Sarkodie, a 5'9 product of Stevenson HS, never got a hat trick. Last week following a solid outing against John Jay (a 2-0 win), he scored three goals in an 8-3 blowout over Baruch. Sarkodie has stepped in for injured forward Ivan Popov, currently tying for the team lead with 6 goals on the year, and 13 points.

Rookie of The Week - Jason Chin, Hunter - Fr., MF, Orangeburg, NY

Chin, a freshman co-captain, has been leading the Hawks charge up the CUNY ladder the last few weeks. The Tappan Zee High School alum has scored in each of Hunter's last four games (1-1-1 last week), including the game winner against Brooklyn with just 11 minutes remaining in the contest. Chin leads the squad with 4 goals and an assist on the year.

CUNYAC / BRINE notes

CARDINALS CLINCH CUNY CROWN
The York College Cardinals have clinched the regular season title with a 2-0 victory over Medgar Evers College on Saturday. The game was a rematch of last season's championship game (3-2 OT) which propelled York to the NCAA Tournament. Marc Meo opened the scoring in the first half, with defender Roger Wilson adding an insurance tally in the 2nd half. The Cardinals, under rookie coach Linval Cunningham, have thus clinched their 2nd ever regular season title and the first since 1990, under Tim Bradbury (10-3-1).

BARUCH 0-1-1 on the week
The Statesmen salvaged a tie with Hunter thanks to Pedro Zevallos who scored both Baruch goals, pouncing on a rebound to knot the score at 2-2 in the 76th minute. Christopher Radjpaul netted two penalty kicks against CCNY but it wasn't nearly enough in the 8-3 loss.

BROOKLYN 1-1-1 on the week
The Bridges were unable to help themselves in the standings after a scoreless tie with Medgar Evers and a 1-0 loss to Hunter. The Bridges did manage to earn a 2-1 win over Farmingdale earlier in the week on goals by Euborne Springer and Joseph Awadije.

CCNY 2-0 on the week
The Beavers won two more conference games and can clinch the #2 spot with a win over Staten Island on Wednesday. Freshman Santiago Helman scored both goals in the blanking of John Jay while six different players converted against the Statesmen. Midfielder Gary Byrne stood out with a goal and three assists.

HUNTER 1-1-1 on the week
The Hawks have gone 3-3-1 since the return of Daniel Djura between the posts and the takeover by Salvador Briones as the head coach. They are holding firm at .500 in CUNY play and hope to move up to the #4 spot with a win over City Tech and a John Jay loss at Medgar Evers.

JOHN JAY 1-1 on the week
Bloodhound goalkeeper German Rojas continues to shine, posting his 4th shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over Polytechnic. Rojas made 13 saves in two games, while Bart Malinowski and Jean Gomez scored for the winners.

MEDGAR EVERS 1-2-1 on the week
David Chung continues to shine for Medgar Evers as he paced the Cougars with 4 goals on the week. Chung netted two goals apiece in the loss to New Jersey City and the win over Maritime. Goalkeeper David Allen recorded a season-high 17 saves in the 2-0 loss at York.

NY CITY TECH 0-3 on the week
The Yellow Jackets lost three games, including a 3-0 blanking to Staten Island at home. Goalkeeper Togar Travers made nine saves in that game. George Ofosu-ameyaw leads the team in scoring with 3 goals.

STATEN ISLAND 2-1 on the week
Two-sport star (soccer & baseball) Tom Consolmagno led the Dolphins to a 2-1 record last week, scoring against Rutgers-Newark and City Tech. He leads CUNY with 12 goals on the year. Freshman Mitchell Poormand netted the game-winner against Rutgers-Newark.

YORK 3-1 on the week
Goalkeeper Stephane Koutouo recorded three more shutouts for York, with the blanking of Staten Island and Medgar Evers giving York the regular season title. Marc Meo and Roger Wilson scored in the back to back wins over St. Thomas Aquinas and Evers.
