CUNYAC / BRINE quarterfinal recaps

YORK 3, BARUCH 1
The defending champions and top-seeded Cardinals took the lead in the 18th minute, when 2000 Tournament MVP Chimela Okoro (Lagos, Nigeria) scored off an assist from freshman Cheick Keita, and held off the eighth-seeded Statesmen, 3-1. Keita, a native of Barnako, Mali had the second goal seven minutes later on a cross from freshman Paul Cordoza. Another frosh, defender Roger Wilson got the third tally in the second half. Baruch's Pedro Zevallos scored on a penalty kick in the 64th minute. York, now on a 13 match CUNYAC winning streak, will face Hunter at 1:00 pm on Wednesday at the Metropolitan Oval in the semifinals.

CCNY 5, MEDGAR EVERS 0
The Beavers were dominant on Saturday, dropping the Cougars 5-0, as the soccer-rich school searches for their first CUNYAC tittle since 1993. Five different players (Gary Byrne, Gerhard Sarkodie, Andy Wray, Thomas Kenson and Ivan Popov) tallied for City. Junior goalkeeper Roger Cyrus (Brooklyn, NY) had only three saves in his ninth shutout of the season. CCNY just defeated Staten Island (the school's Wednesday semifinal opponent) last week, 2-1 at CSI, in a very physical contest.

STATEN ISLAND 7, BROOKLYN 2
Freshman Azmir Dzemovski blasted four goals for the No. 3 seed Dolphins, as they topped the sixth-seeded Bridges, 7-2 at home, to advance to Wednesday's semifinals against CCNY at 3:00 pm. Dzemovski, a newcomer from Susan Wagner HS (Staten Island, NY) had been scoreless through 14 games of action this season. Senior forward Tom Consolmagno also had an outstanding afternoon with three goals and three assists, to up his total to a CUNYAC leading 14 on the season. His last tally, in the 82nd minute, came on a pass from his brother, a freshman GK / MF, Chris.

HUNTER 1, JOHN JAY 0
After a scoreless contest through 74 minutes, Hunter defender Baffour Acheampong (Kamasi, Ghana) headed a Jason Chin pass from five yards out to the near post for the 1-0 win. The Hawks have won five of their last ten games after starting out 0-8 and making a coaching change. Bloodhound goalkeeper German Rojas (Brooklyn, NY) had six saves, while Hunter GK Dan Djura (Ridgewood, NY) had eight in his third shutout of the season. Hunter has now made the CUNYAC semifinals six of the last seven years.
