Ted Hurwitz - Executive Director
When Ted Hurwitz was appointed as the Executive Director of the City University of New York Athletic Conference in September of 1991,
he brought a long and distinguished career within CUNY to his present post. He received his Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from CCNY
(1961), where he captained the varsity basketball team. Upon his return from a professional playing career overseas with Maccabi (Tel
Aviv), Ted began coaching basketball at CCNY and later at Lehman College.
In 1971, he received his Master's in Physical Education from
Lehman. In addition to coaching men's and women's basketball, and men's and women's tennis, Ted previously was the school's athletic
director. He has served on and chaired numerous NCAA and ECAC committees. Ted is listed among Who's Who in America and was
elected to the City College (1996) and Lehman (1999, inaugural class) Athletic Hall of Fames. Ted enjoys playing tennis and is renowned
for his weekly pickup basketball games for the past 25 years. He resides in White Plains, New York with his wife Norma, who is an
elementary school principal in Manhattan. The Hurwitz' have three children in David, Lina and Amy - all of them athletes like dad. |
