Summary of Campus Incidents Involving Crimes as of January 2003
01/10/03 3:45PM Public Safety personnel responded to a report of an unknown African-American male who had entered the APEX Building with a weapon. The unknown male entered the facility after learning that a member of a visiting college Men's Basketball team had allegedly, inappropriately touched his girlfriend. The unknown male, who was later found to be a student of the visiting college and a former Lehman College student interrupted a basketball practice and brandished a shotgun after questioning one of the players. The student then left the facility, without any further incident. The student was later identified and arrested, through further investigation by NYPD, and charged with Burglary, Reckless Endangerment, Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Menacing. 01/15/03 2:00PM A Lehman staff member reported the theft of personal property from their office by an unknown African-American male. The subject, who was 19 years of age, was located in the subbasement of a campus building and questioned by Public Safety personnel. The subject admitted to the theft of the property. No arrest was made; the staff member did not file any charges against the subject. 01/17/03 10:00PM A Lehman College staff member reported being threatened, at gunpoint, by an unknown, Hispanic male, while walking on a campus perimeter street. The staff member, along with another Lehman College staff member, reported that the unknown, Hispanic male, who was driving a dark blue Dodge Caravan Minivan, approached them, while in his vehicle, threatened deadly physical force while pointing a gun at one of the staff members after a verbal exchange with one of the staff members. The driver then returned to his vehicle and sped off. The driver of the minivan was reportedly, speeding down the street, nearly hitting the two staff members. 01/23/03 6:06PM A Lehman College student reported the theft of personal property from the locker room facility of the APEX Building. The student was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 01/28/03 3:30PM A Lehman College student reported the damage to and theft of personal property from their vehicle while the vehicle was parked on a campus perimeter street. The student was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 01/29/03 4:30PM Public Safety personnel reported observing, while on patrol, damage to a vehicle that was parked on a campus perimeter street. The vehicle was found with its passenger-side window broken. The vehicle also appeared to have been ransacked. 01/29/03 10:15PM A Lehman College staff member reported finding graffiti markings on a door of an office located within a campus building. 02/05/03 9:15PM A Lehman College student reported damage sustained to their while the vehicle was parked in a campus parking lot. 02/07/03 9:05AM A Lehman College student reported the theft of personal property from a classroom located within a campus building. 02/07/03 1:40PM A Lehman College staff member reported observing damage sustained to a door of a campus building. 02/09/03 3:30PM A Lehman College student reported being harassed by an unknown African-American male while inside a campus building. The student, along with two other students, reported that the unknown male made unsolicited remarks towards them. The subject was issued a Notice of Trespass and escorted from the campus by Public Safety personnel after it was learned that the subject had no right to be on the college property. 02/13/03 9:45PM A City College student was issued a Notice of Trespass by Public Safety personnel for their unauthorized presence in a campus building. The student, after being informed by college staff that they were not allowed to be in a campus building and then later, observed inside the same campus building and refusing to leave the campus grounds, was issued the Trespass Notice and escorted from the campus. 02/19/03 7:00PM A Lehman College student reported the theft of personal property from the locker room facility of the APEX Building. The student was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 02/20/03 8:00PM Public Safety personnel responded to a campus building where damage to college property had been found. The damage appeared to have been caused intentionally and with malice. 02/25/03 8:00PM A Lehman College student reported the theft of personal property from the locker room facility of the APEX Building. The student was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 02/26/03 7:20PM A former Lehman College student was issued a Notice of Trespass and a Criminal Summons for their unauthorized presence in a campus building. The former student failed to comply with Public Safety personnel and refused to provide Lehman identification. The former student was also in possession of another student's bursar receipt to gain access into a campus building without the right to be in the building. 02/27/03 6:30PM A Lehman College student reported the theft of personal property from the locker room facility of the APEX Building. The student was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 02/28/03 10:06AM A Lehman College student reported being harassed by another Lehman College student at their residence. The incident was referred to the local police precinct and to the Office of Student Affairs for further action. 03/01/03 6:37AM A Lehman College administrator reported observing damage to college property which was located within a campus building. 03/01/03 9:43PM A Lehman College staff member reported the theft of college property from a facility located within a campus building. The student was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 03/20/03 7:15AM A Lehman College faculty member was arrested by Public Safety personnel for assaulting a Lehman College student while conducting a class in a classroom located within a campus building. The faculty member allegedly grabbed the student by the clothing and forcibly removed the student from the classroom when the student refused to comply with the faculty member's instructions. The incident was referred to college administration for further action. 03/20/03 1:20PM A Lehman College student reported the damage to and theft of personal property from their vehicle while the vehicle was parked on a campus perimeter street. The student was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 03/21/03 7:44PM A High School of American Studies staff member reported the theft of school property from a facility located within a campus building. 03/25/03 9:30PM A Lehman College student reported the theft of personal property from the locker room facility of the APEX Building. The student also reported being threatened and verbally abused by the staff member, in an earlier incident, while on the platform of a local subway station. The staff member was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 04/10/03 2:30PM A Lehman College student was arrested by Public Safety personnel after the student threatened two of the officers with physical violence and was verbally abusive when the officers attempted to obtain the student's identity. The student was found to be present within a facility of a campus building, having no authority to be in the facility. The student also failed to comply with the officers when the officers attempted to obtain the student's identity. The student was charged with Criminal Trespass, Disorderly Conduct, and Resisting Arrest. 04/10/03 5:30PM A Lehman College staff member reported the theft of college property from a storage area located within a campus building. The incident was referred to the local police precinct for an official complaint. 04/11/03 9:40PM A Lehman College staff member reported the theft of personal property from their vehicle while the vehicle was parked in a campus parking lot. The staff member was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 04/14/03 10:12PM A counselor of a visiting agency reported the damage to and theft of property from a vehicle owned by the agency while the vehicle was parked on a campus perimeter street. The counselor also reported the theft of personal property from the vehicle. The counselor was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 04/16/03 11:05AM A Lehman College staff member reported damage found to several doors located within a campus building. The damage appeared to have been caused intentionally. 04/21/03 12:00PM A Lehman College faculty member reported receiving pornographic email via their office computer located in a campus building. The email was found to have originated from the CUNY mailing system and transmitted to the faculty member via the college's email server. 04/22/03 8:30PM A Lehman College student reported the theft of personal property. The property had been found by an unknown person and surrendered to a staff member in a facility located within a campus building. The student was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 04/23/03 3:55PM A Lehman College staff member reported the theft of personal property from an office located within a campus building. The staff member was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 04/24/03 12:30PM A Lehman College student reported being harassed by another Lehman College student. Both students are employed at the college. The student affecting the harassment was advised by Public Safety personnel to refrain from any contact with the complainant. The student affecting the harassment was also advised by Public Safety personnel that they would be subject to arrest, should their behavior continue. The incident was referred to the Office of Student Affairs. 04/26/03 10:50PM A Lehman College staff member reported the damage to and theft of personal property from a college vehicle while the vehicle was parked at an off campus location. The staff member reported filing a police report with the local police where the incident occurred. 04/29/03 4:45PM A Lehman College faculty member reported the theft of property from their office located within a campus building. The faculty member was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 04/30/03 8:00AM A Lehman College faculty member reported the theft of personal and college property from a room located within a campus building. 05/01/03 2:57PM Public Safety personnel responded to a campus perimeter gate after learning of a robbery of a local high school student via a NYPD radio that was monitored at the Public Safety Command Center. The suspects, a 23 year old, African-American male and a 17 year old, Hispanic male, were arrested by NYPD officers, who were also responding to the scene and who recognized the suspects from a previous incident. An individual fitting the description of the victim was seen in a campus building by Public Safety personnel who, in turn, notified the Public Safety Central Command Center of the victim's location. 05/02/03 8:28PM A Lehman College student was issued a Notice of Trespass for their unauthorized presence on campus property. The student had had a previous encounter with Public Safety personnel which resulted in an arrest of the student after the student failed to comply with the officers and threatening the officers with physical harm. 05/04/03 6:20AM Public Safety personnel reported, while on patrol, observing damage to several vehicles that were parked on a campus perimeter street. Officers from the NYPD and the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) also responded to the scene. The incident was reported to the police by an off-duty officer who had witnessed the incident. 05/06/03 9:16PM A Lehman College student reported the damage to and theft of personal property from their vehicle while the vehicle was parked on a campus perimeter street. The student was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 05/07/03 11:30AM A Lehman College student reported the theft of personal property from the locker room facility located within the APEX Bldg. The student who had been victimized on several previous occasions, had placed a surveillance camera in the locker, which was being used at the time of the incident, to attempt to identify the suspect who may have caused the previous incidents. Upon review of the camera's recordings, a suspect was seen forcing open the locker. The student was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. The incident was also referred to the local District Attorney's Office. 05/07/03 1:30PM A Lehman College student reported being stalked while walking on a campus perimeter street. The student reported observing a car following them as they walked on the campus perimeter street. The student also reported being harassed by a former companion who repeatedly called them on their cell phone. The student also reported being threatened by the former companion. NYPD was notified and responded to the campus. 05/07/03 7:00PM A Lehman College student reported the damage to and theft of personal property from their vehicle while the vehicle was parked on a campus perimeter street. The student was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 05/08/03 8:48PM Public Safety personnel responded to a report of a break-in of a vehicle that was parked on a campus perimeter street. The vehicle was found and two windows were found damage. The owner, who was visiting the campus, was located and reported that personal property had also been stolen from the vehicle. The owner was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 05/08/03 5:00PM A Lehman College student reported the theft of personal property from the locker room facility located within the APEX Bldg. The student was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 05/12/03 9:00PM A Lehman College student report the theft of personal property while occupying a facility located within a campus building. The student had reported the theft to the police but did not report the incident to Public Safety until four days after the occurrence. 05/13/03 10:49AM A 26 year old, Hispanic male was issued a Notice of Trespass for his unauthorized presence in a campus building. The male was found sleeping in a facility located within a campus building. The male was advised by Public Safety personnel that he would be subject to arrest if found on campus in the future. 05/14/03 12:48AM A Lehman College staff member reported finding personal property belonging to another Lehman College staff member while working in a facility located within a campus building. The owner later claimed their property, noting that some of their personal property was missing. The incident was reclassified as theft of personal property. 05/14/03 4:30AM A Lehman College student was issued a Notice of Trespass for their unauthorized presence in a campus building. The student had previously been cited for their unauthorized presence on campus property. 05/14/03 12:18PM A Lehman College faculty member reported damage that was sustained to college property located within a campus building. Three youths were observed by contractors working on the campus, damaging the property and were pursed by Public Safety personnel. The youths escaped by running into a local high school facility. The youths direction of flight could not be determined by the on-site School Safety personnel. 05/15/03 3:45PM A visitor to the campus reported the theft of personal property from the locker room facility located within the APEX Building. The visitor was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 05/16/03 8:45AM A Lehman College staff member reported the theft of personal property from their office, located within a campus building. The staff member later learned that charges had been made to one of their credit cards after reporting the theft to the credit card company.. 05/17/03 10:00PM A Lehman College staff member reported observing graffiti markings in a facility located within a campus building. 05/17/03 9:30AM Public Safety personnel reported observing graffiti markings in a facility located within a campus building. 05/20/03 3:00AM Public Safety personnel reported observing damage to property located within a building on the campus grounds. A staff member later reported observing several youths tampering with the property on an earlier date during an event that was being held in the building. The youths fled the area when the staff member approached them. 05/20/03 9:00AM Public Safety personnel reported being advised of sexually explicit letter that was sent to a Lehman College faculty member through the postal service. The letter reportedly referred to an employee of another City University college. The incident was referred to the Public Safety Department of the college where the employee allegedly works. 05/20/03 6:40PM A Lehman College student reported the theft of their motorcycle while the motorcycle was parked in a campus parking lot. The student was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 05/20/03 8:30PM A Lehman College student reported the damage to and theft of personal property from their vehicle while the vehicle was parked in a campus parking lot. The faculty member also reported that they were harassed by the student. The incident was referred to the Office of Student Affairs. 06/05/03 10:30AM A Lehman College faculty member reported the theft of college property from an office located within a campus building. 06/06/03 5:30PM A visitor to the campus reported damage sustained to their vehicle while the vehicle was parked in a campus parking lot. The visitor was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 06/08/03 5:00PM A visitor to the campus reported the theft of their vehicle while the vehicle was parked on a campus perimeter street. Police from the local precinct was notified and responded to the campus. The visitor then filed a police report with the responding officers. 06/09/03 6:08PM Public Safety personnel reported observing a vehicle being driven recklessly in a campus parking lot. The driver of the vehicle was operating their vehicle in an unsafe manner potentially causing serious damage to property or injury to pedestrians. The driver was later identified as an employee of a facility located within a campus building. The incident was referred to the college's administration. 06/10/03 8:39PM A Lehman College staff member reported observing graffiti markings on college property located within a campus building. 06/13/03 11:49PM Public Safety personnel reported observing a vehicle being driven recklessly on a local highway near the campus grounds. The driver of the vehicle appeared to be intent on causing serious injury to drivers utilizing the highway by preventing safe movement of vehicles in and out of traffic lanes, making sudden stops, and / or blocking other vehicles to prevent vehicles from passing other vehicles in the traffic lanes. The incident was reported to an officer of a local police precinct who was on the campus at the time. 06/15/03 2:00PM Public Safety personnel reporting observing damage sustained to property belonging to an off campus vendor. 06/16/03 12:00PM A Lehman College faculty member reported being robbed of personal property while walking on a campus perimeter street. The suspects were 2 African-American males, one wearing a red jacket and jeans; the other, wearing a grey and white shirt and jeans. The faculty member reported being grabbed by the throat then punched about the face by the suspects. The faculty member reported that personal property was forcibly taken from their person. The faculty member contacted local police after arriving a their residence. 06/16/03 1:30PM A Lehman College student reported the theft of personal property from a locker room facility located within the APEX Building. The student was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 06/17/03 6:00AM Public Safety personnel reported observing a vehicle being driven recklessly into a campus parking lot. The driver of the vehicle, a contractor employed to work on the campus grounds, did not have a valid driver's license in their possession and also appeared to have been driving after consuming alcohol. The contractor was then arrested and transported to a local police precinct for alcohol content testing. The contractor refused testing and processed for further arrest proceedings. The contractor was found to have been driving with a suspended license of 11 years. 06/18/03 7:25PM A visitor to the campus reported the theft of personal property from a locker room facility located with the APEX Building. The visitor was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 06/20/03 12:31AM Public Safety personnel reported observing four unknown individuals on the campus grounds. Two of the four individuals were apprehended after fleeing from the scene and given a Verbal Warning of Trespass for their unauthorized presence on campus. The two individuals were later found to be Lehman College students. 06/26/03 3:20PM A local high school student reported observing a dark skinned man conducting a lewd act while in a facility located on the campus ground. The high school student reported that the man began masturbating after attracting their attention, directing that they respond toward him. The man was wearing a blue shirt with khaki colored pants and a blue towel that was wrapped around his face. A check of the area was conducted by Public Safety personnel. The man was not found. The high school student was referred to the local police precinct to file a police report. 06/29/03 8:00PM A City College student was issued a Notice of Trespass for their unauthorized presence in a campus building. At the time of the incident, all campus buildings and facilities were closed.
