Lehman College's faculty and student parking lots have had two vehicle break-ins where detachable GPS systems were stolen. Thefts of detachable Global Positioning Systems (GPS) are sharply on the rise. They are quickly becoming not only the hottest car accessory for drivers, but for thieves, too. Satellite-based navigation systems are now the top item stolen from cars. "They are high-end items and they can bring in quick cash." Sharp-eyed thieves may spot the faint mark of the suction cup used to position the system on the dashboard or windshield and are even "hitting" cars where the device is not visible. Thieves will notice the suction mark, break into a car and then look under the seats and in the glove compartment for the device.
