In 1884 Theodore W.E. De Lemos and August W. Cordes started the firm of De Lemos & Cordes.  Together they built some of the largest department stores and office buildings in New York City, among them the Siegel-Cooper, Macy’s at Herald Square, and Adams department stores, the Speyer & Company, Kuhn, Loeb & Company and the New York County National Bank buildings as well as New York’s Grand Central Palace and many country homes for prominent New Yorkers.
