Richard Mitchell Upjohn is the son of the noted church architect and Gothic Revivalist, Richard Upjohn who was partially responsible for launching the movement to its popularity in the United States.  R.M. Upjohn was born in Shaftesbury, England and lived most of his life in Brooklyn, NY.  He entered his father’s New York architectural firm in 1846.

R.M. Upjohn is recognized for his Victorian Gothic Style.  A large part of his practice focused on the design of small Gothic Revival style churches for modest Episcopal parishes located in rural areas.  Most of his designs were constructed of wood with the board-and-battan siding exterior.
