Bronx Public Art and Architecture

The Bronx Public Art Web site, developed by Lehman College Art Gallery, is an interactive, multimedia guide for teachers. The project promotes the arts in schools by incorporating new and historic public art in the Bronx by major artists into the curriculum. The site, which features the borough’s public art from the 19th century to contemporary projects, provides teacher materials—lesson plans for selected sites, background information and ideas for objectives and hands-on projects; artists’ backgrounds; neighborhood histories; walking tours and maps. The address is www.lehman.edu/publicart

The Bronx Architecture web site is an online guide to the architecture of the borough developed by Lehman College Art Gallery/CUNY. Designed as a companion to "Public Art in the Bronx," the Web site features over 75 buildings, background on architects, neighborhood walking tours, maps, lesson-plans for high school teachers, neighborhood histories, a resource section, and glossary. Like the Web site devoted to public art, we hope that this guide will provide a useful resource for the general public as well as teachers and encourage exploration of the art and architecture of the Bronx.
