George Snowden, who was born in 1901 in Yonkers, New York, lived and worked in New York and California. He attended Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut; the Beaux Arts Institute, New York, NY; the Academy LeGrande Chaumier, Paris, France; the American Academy in Rome, Rome, Italy; and Studio A.A.W. Snowden’s numerous accomplishments throughout his 65 year career include over 100 public placements (the pediment of the U.S. Postal Service Building and the altar of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.), sculptural design for many major Hollywood films, and the design of many of the original sculptural elements for Walt Disney’s Disneyland and Epcot Center theme parks. Snowden, who was a member of the National Sculpture Society, the Nation Geographic Society, and the American Institute of Fine Arts, died in 1990.
