In the heart of Belmont's thriving dining and shopping district stands the marble bust Christopher Columbus at the eastern end of D'Auria-Murphy Triangle. The park itself was named after two local residents who had lost their lives during WW I. The bust of Columbus, originally from P.S. 45 in the Bronx, was moved to the park in 1992. The statue commemorates the life and achievements of the famous explorer whom some credit with the discovery of America. Today, the statue reminds us of the contributions of Italian Americans in the Bronx and throughout American history.
