Open Voyage, an abstract sculpture, sits like a tiara on the gymnasium roof of P.S. 279. The work is an arching semicircular aluminum band with brightly colored, ribbon-like shapes that weave in and out of the structure. A variety of geometric and abstract three-dimensional shapes that are brightly painted interweave through a semicircular gray metal stationary structure. The work reflects activity through motion as well as quiet contemplation through stability for the students and community alike. It stands 19-feet high and is visible from a number of vantage points throughout the school and neighborhood. More about the Percent for Art Program
